Mio turns 11 months old today… which means she is one month away from turning one! Incredible how fast time flies. Here’s our sweet daughter now, with more personality than ever!

(I’ll be taking photos of Mio sitting in my white desk chair and wearing her monthly onesie every month until she’s one year old.)

The Rundown at Eleven Months…

Stats: You still weigh around 22 pounds, and while you used to be in the 80th to 95th percentiles in weight and height in your first several months, since your growth has hit a plateau, you are now more in the 60 to 65th percentile range. One thing that is still really large, though, is your head size — as your pediatrician says, “someone in the family has a big head!” I thought it was Daddy, but he maintains that it is me. (I suppose looking at it proportionally, he is right.)  You still have eight teeth — although it’s hard to really see whether or not you’re getting more in because it’s difficult to get you to open your mouth wide enough to get a clear look. You’re still in 18 month size clothes, but we’ll probably be moving you up to 24 month size soon.

Things You’re Doing Now: You’ve started walking in the past month! It’s been amazing to watch you progress from uncertain couple steps here and there to full-on confident walking with very occasional stumbles! You’re getting really fast at it, too, and we’re finding it hard to keep you from chasing after us wherever we go! It always melts my heart, though, to feel your little arms wrap around my leg and see your beautiful eyes looking up at me — I can’t help but scoop you up and squeeze you tight. (This has unfortunately resulted in increased clinginess, though… you cry more often when I set you down.) You’re all about finger foods now, and no longer will eat puréed foods we try to spoon-feed you. You like to eat steamed vegetables that we cut up for you (carrots, broccoli, potatoes, squash, beans) and have a newfound love for shredded string cheese. You love orzo and pasta, and have a strong love for Japanese food, too, as you gobble up natto rice, cut-up udon, and rice mixed with flaked and shredded salmon. You’ve realized that whatever we’re eating is usually good, so you reach for foods when Daddy and I are snacking… which means we need to start watching what we eat around you! In the past week, you’ve started wanting to self-feed with utensils: although you’re not adept enough to stab food with your fork yet, as long as we put the food on the fork for you, you’ll grab it and properly guide it into your mouth. It seems to be your preferred method of eating nowadays, which is a little slower than us directly feeding you, but we are trying to respect these first signs of independence that you’re exhibiting. I look back on how much you’ve grown and developed over the past eleven months, and it truly is astounding. It’s still really hard for me to believe that your Daddy and I created someone like you… but here you are, more beautiful and wonderful than I could have ever imagined.
