Now that Mirei is getting more and more active, she and Mio are also interacting more. While Mio still often seems to regards Mirei as a little bit of a nuisance, it’s sweet when we find that she is not just tolerating/ignoring her and letting her join in activities alongside her and even playing together.
This is from over a month ago, but Mio tickling Mirei with me:
Trying miso soup for the first time, from a straw:
More standing:
Playing with a hairbrush:
Auntie Miwa fed her some takoyaki (a piece without octopus) for the first time, and she loved it.
She loved playing under the tent that Dan made with the bedsheets!
Mirei’s making our heads spin with how fast she’s growing! Sometimes we wish she would slow down a little… I feel like she’s already quickly graduating from her baby days!
Things You’re Doing Now: You are cruising now! You still crawl around a lot too and have gotten extremely fast at it, but if there’s ever any sort of edge to pull yourself up on and support yourself with, you will find it, stand up, and shuffle back and forth along it. You’ll let go here and there, too, and be able to stand without support for several seconds at a time — and smile really wide when you do, too, to show that you are really excited and proud of your accomplishment! Although you were doing pretty well with solids during the first month, lately you frequently refuse certain foods, clamping your mouth shut and refusing to open it to let the food in. You can be very stubborn! You’re interacting more than ever with Mio now, following her around and wanting to grab at everything she’s playing with, wanting to play with her. Mio often gets frustrated and pushes you away, but you’ve begun to fight back by pushing back or just thrusting all your weight against her! I suppose these are the first of sibling squabbles… You can be very loud, both in your whining, crying, and babbling, and you often say things like “Na-na-na-na-na.” Because you’re constantly moving around lately, you are also prone to stumbling and at times hurting yourself. I vaguely remember this stage with Mio, and how I seriously contemplated buying a helmet for her head — maybe it’s not too late to find one… 😛
Summer passed by all too quickly this year, and I have been really awful at keeping this space updated in the past several weeks. I thought I’d do a little compilation post of photos and videos here of some of our favorite cute/humorous moments captured on camera to share… better late than never, right?
…and thus follows the photo dump of all photo dumps.
All it takes is a blanket to keep them giggling non-stop!
Crawling everywhere!

Stats: At your last doctor’s visit almost a month ago, you weighed 21 lbs 6oz, so we’re guessing that by now you are over 22 lbs! It’s hard to hold you for too long because you are so heavy, and our wrists and arms have started to hurt because of how heavy you are.
Things You’re Doing Now: You’re a pro at crawling now! You’ve gotten really fast at making your way from one end of the hall to another, moving from room to room at an alarming speed! You’ve also started pulling yourself up to a standing position with chairs, couches, shelves, anything you can get your hands on! We’ve even witnessed you attempt to cruise a little as you try to maintain your standing position as you shift your feet along. Your bottom two teeth have now fully emerged, and you have been eating your solids every day for about a month now! So far, you’ve tried baby oatmeal, butternut squash, avocado, zucchini, carrots, pears, and bananas! (Your favorite so far has interestingly been zucchini.) Your naps tend to be for shorter periods of time now (half an hour to an hour), so you’re awake for much of the day and have been keeping us busy! You love watching and chasing after your big sister, and often reach for and grab her toys, much to Mio’s chagrin. You’re constantly grabbing things you find and sticking them in your mouth, so we have to keep a close watch for any choking hazards you may get a hold of! You’re full of expression, raising your voice very loudly to express both frustration and joy, and it’s a wonder to watch you grow. We have a feeling you’ll be quite the outgoing little girl, with how much you love flashing your smile at everyone you meet and how vocal you already are!
