We spent this past weekend at Camp Shehaqua, a family camp at Hickory Run State Park in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. We arrived on Friday afternoon and left on Sunday afternoon, so it was a fun three days and two nights spent with friends and their families in the great outdoors!
Mirei with her friends:
While I’m not a very outdoorsy person and camping usually is a challenge for me, it was nice to unplug and get away with other families and friends, and spend time in nature together. The kids definitely enjoyed it, and we’re looking forward to going again in the future!
Happy half birthday to our dear Mirei! You’re six months old today, and this past year has really flown by. You’ve grown so much since you came into our lives as a little pink bundle of joy back in January, and we’re in wonder at how much you can do now.
(I’ll be taking photos of Mirei sitting in my white desk chair and wearing her monthly onesie every month until she’s one year old.)
Stats: While we have yet to get some exact measurements until we go to the doctor for your wellness exam next week, we’re pretty sure you are well over 19 lbs… perhaps even nearing 20 lbs! You feel so heavy and we’re already feeling like we can’t hold you for too long at a time because you are so hefty. In the past week, your two front bottom teeth have emerged — your first teeth! Your hair which had a bald strip in the back is completely grown back in now.
Things You’re Doing Now: You’re on the move! In the past couple weeks, you’ve learned to wiggle and scoot your way around, pseudo-crawling your way around the room. When you spot something you want to touch, you determinedly start lunging towards it and speedily scoot your way towards your prize! We can’t leave you on high surfaces like the bed or you’ll definitely roll and scoot your way off of them. You’re constantly rolling around and moving in your sleep, traveling from one end of the crib to the other several times during the night. We find cooing happily in your crib when you wake up in the morning and from your naps, and are generally a very happy baby, full of smiles, squeals, and laughs! Because your first teeth have come in, nursing you can be painful at times, and you are eager to put anything you can into your mouth due to the teething. You’re very eager to start solids, constantly staring and reaching for the food we’re eating in front of you. We plan to officially introduce you to the world of solids next week! We couldn’t be happier with how healthy and smoothly you have been growing, and we look forward to what the coming months and years with you will bring!
Mirei turned four months old today! I almost forgot to post her monthly photos/update because of Memorial Day weekend, but I am getting these posted before the day is over!

Stats: You now weigh almost 19 pounds! You’ve moved up to size 4 diapers — even though you’re still well within the weight range of size 3 diapers, your thighs and tooshie are so chubby that we’ve had to move you up to the next size! According to your last doctor’s visit a couple weeks ago, you’re now about 26.5 inches tall! Things You’re Doing Now: You’ve grown so much in these past few months, and we can’t believe how heavy you’ve gotten! Strangers who see you think you’re much older than you actually are, and your gaze and mannerisms seems mature as well. You’ve gotten quite strong and can hold your head and shoulders up for long periods of time, propping your upper body up with your arms and elbows. You really wiggle around while you’re on the floor and often rotate on the floor and in your crib, while also rolling this way and that. You may begin crawling earlier than we expected! We’ve introduced you to the doorway jumper which you love jumping around in, and also like sitting in your highchair with everyone at the table. You really stare at us when we’re eating, and sometimes even make motions to grab at food that’s in our hand when we’re holding you and eating at the same time. You’ve started sucking in your lips (as seen in this video) and love sucking on your fists and fingers, which signal that you may be teething! You love observing everyone around you, and you seem especially interested in what your big sister is doing when she’s around. We have a feeling you’ll be following her around before we know it!
Today, Mirei went in for her 4 month wellness exam. (She’s technically more like four and a half months old now, but since her 2 month visit was so late and was more like a 3 month visit, the doctor pushed back this exam as well.) The nurse and doctor were amazed at how big she is for her age, and doted over her wide-eyed smiles during the checkup. She of course cried during the immunization shots, but calmed pretty quickly afterwards.
Here are Mirei’s latest growth measurements.
Mirei now weighs 18 lbs 6 oz, which pushes her up in the 97th growth percentile based on weight-for-age.
She measured 26.5 inches tall, putting her in the 97th percentile for height-for-age as well.
Her head size is now 17 inches, which is in the 95th growth percentile based on head circumference-for-age.
I had felt like Mirei had gotten a lot heavier recently (she is now moving up to size 4 diapers!), but was still kind of stunned when they told me she was over 18 lbs! I looked back at Mio’s stats and found that Mio was 16 lbs at 4 months old, which at the time we thought was so heavy! lol. Turns out Mirei is even more of a chunker than her big sister was! We feel really lucky, though, that she is such a healthy and happy baby girl — we wouldn’t change a thing about our precious not-so-little Mirei!

Stats: You weigh approximately sixteen pounds now! Since a couple weeks ago, you’ve moved up to 9-month size clothing, because the 6-month sizes were getting too tight on you! We always joke about what a chubster you are, but we’re so thankful that you are such a healthy baby.
Things You’re Doing Now: About three weeks ago, you rolled over for the first time and have been getting better and better at it ever since! We’ll put you facing up on the playmat and within seconds, you’ll have already rolled over to your tummy. You try to twist your body to the side as if you’re trying to roll even while in the swing and bouncer, which has resulted in you ending up in uncomfortable positions while strapped into them. You also often attempt to lunge forward while in the swing or bouncer and sometimes almost fall out of them, so we really have to keep an eye on you at all times! You’re mastering tummy time and can hold your head and shoulders up pretty high, and you’re already scooting sideways sometimes by wiggling your arms and legs — a precursor to crawling! You smile so much more now, and we have recently started to hear more of your giggles — in fact, you were giggling during these monthly photos we took today, when we were doing peekaboo with you to get you to smile. You seem to be a bit camera-shy, and oftentimes when we point the camera or a phone in your direction to capture a moment, you’ll stop doing whatever it was we were trying to capture — you’re a tricky one! 😉 You really stare at our food when we’re eating so we can tell you’re already very interested! You often like to vigorously suck on your fingers, fists, and clothing, so we wonder if you may be teething soon. The past four months have just flown by, and we look forward to watching you continue to blossom!
