We discovered yesterday that Mio’s first tooth is coming in! It’s one of her bottom middle teeth… you can see the top of the tooth emerging as the whitish part on her gums:
People had told us she must be teething during the past few weeks, because of how much she’s been drooling and sucking on her hands and toys, but we figured it was a very slow process and that we wouldn’t see the first tooth for a while.
While I’m excited about Mio reaching this milestone, I can’t help but wince when I think of breastfeeding a baby with teeth… Ouch!
Aileen and Haruka visited us earlier this week. They’d already met Mio when she was about a month old, but they were sweet enough to think of us and stop by again on their way down from a weekend trip.
Thanks for stopping by, and for the delicious strawberries! We loved them!!!
This morning, Mio went in for her 4-month doctor’s visit. She got follow-up doses to the six vaccinations that were given at her 2-month visit. Mio cried when she got the shots as expected, but she calmed relatively quickly afterwards and slept the whole way home. She had been pretty fussy for a few days after her 2-month vaccinations, and sure enough, she has been pretty cranky all afternoon and evening again today. Hopefully it will pass soon.
At the pediatrician today, Mio weighed in at exactly 16 lbs, which is in the 89th growth percentile based on weight-for-age. Our pediatrician was a little flabbergasted at how big she was… Our Mio is quite the chunky baby!
She measured 25 inches long, in the 72nd growth percentile based on length-for-age.
…and her head circumference was 16.75 inches, which is in the 85th growth percentile based on head circumference-for-age.
Here are some random photos from this past weekend…
There was a photo booth from Magnolia Photo Booth Co. at Jason & Tarrin’s wedding last Saturday, and we had a lot of fun with it! Such a great idea — a big thanks to the bride and groom for letting us indulge in it. Here are some of the memorable ones….
We were wondering what Mio would look like with a lot of hair. Now we know.
She’s doing the kissy-face, too!
Here I am as a jolly pirate (with a feather boa!) with my awesome coworker friends: Pharaoh Estella and adorable Sarah.
We decided we needed some more Allen family photos, so the three of us stepped into the photo booth once again… but Mio was sleeping. :(Â She retains the same face throughout with those bulldog cheeks, until the last one in which it crumbles from the frustration of disturbed sleep.
Estella, Mio, and I were lucky enough to get a photo opp with the lovely bride, Tarrin!
The last few photos amuse me because it looks like a progression of a horror movie. The look of sheer terror in Mio’s eyes in the last photo is hilarious — what a drama queen!
(I’ll be taking photos of Mio sitting in my white desk chair and wearing her monthly onesie every month until she’s one year old.)
Stats:Â You are well over fifteen pounds now, and while we have yet to go to your four-month checkup, we can already see and feel how much you’ve grown! You’re getting tight for your 3-6 months clothes, so it’s time to start putting them away and getting out the larger sizes. Mommy complains that you need to make your clothes last longer — you have so many adorable outfits, some of which you have only worn once because you are growing out of them so fast! But really, we are just happy that you are so healthy and growing well. 🙂
Things You’re Doing Now:Â How active you are these days! In the past month, you learned how to roll over, and rolling is your mode of transportation these days! You roll everywhere — on your playmat, on the floor, in our bed, in your crib. We often find you in the morning on your tummy and with your body oriented 180 degrees from where we left you the night before, showing that you are busy rolling and rotating even in your sleep! You even try to “roll” by twisting around in your Bumbo seat and bouncer! Daddy thought it was funny that you could only roll in one direction — to your right — for a while (he called it your “Blue Steel” — will you appreciate Zoolander as much as your parents did?), but you have recently started being able to roll the other direction, to your left. (“Magnum” status!) You can hold your head and shoulders up so well while on your tummy and move your arms and legs around in what looks like an attempt to crawl. You started being able to swipe at the toys above you on your playmat a few weeks ago, but now you can grab and hold onto toys, often bringing them to your mouth so you can suck on them. You are smiling a lot more now, and seem to know that seeing your Mommy’s little camera is a cue to smile. (Although you look perplexed and frown at the big honkin’ lens on the DSLR.) We recently bought you a highchair so that you could be “one of the grownups” and sit with us at the table, because you hate being left away from us while we eat — you like to stare at us as during dinnertime and make chewing motions with your mouth while watching us with our food, but we still feel like we should wait a little longer before we start you on solids. You only take a couple short naps during the daytime these days, and have consistently been sleeping 8-10 hours at night these days, which means peaceful, uninterrupted rest for everyone in the house! 😀
