Yesterday, we met up with our friend Jamie to have a picnic lunch at Lake Merced in San Francisco. The weather was a little brisk for summer, but we still had a great time eating and catching up together. Jamie always impresses us with her delicious cooking, and she brought us the most tasty tuna sandwiches ever (even one specially made for Mio!), and we brought some homemade Bakesale Betty-style coleslaw and cherries as sides. After lunch, we walked around the lake — it was Mio and I’s first time seeing Lake Merced!

Mio’s gotten really good at going down the stairs. Love her little cute boots!
We had a lovely time at the lake with Jamie! Thanks for the delicious sandwiches, and for taking such good care of Mio! 😀
I’ve been on a roll with creating hair accessories for Mio, and since a few people have asked about the petal clips that she’s been wearing lately, I thought I’d write a blog post about them. I recently ordered a ZUZII petal clips DIY kit from Etsy, because the hair clips you can make with them are truly adorable, and I loved having the option to make them myself! I was particularly smitten by the colors that were provided, and the reasonable price — at $8 ($10 if you include the $2 shipping), you can create six hair clips. Hair accessories for girls can run pretty steep, and I could easily spend more than that if I were to buy all the materials myself, so I thought this was a pretty good deal.
Everything you need comes in this cute little pouch.
The materials and instructions included in the kit. So awesome that the petals are precut to their various sizes, as that would have been the most annoying and time-consuming part if you were to completely create these from scratch.
They come with the snap clips that the flowers attach to.

Again, I love the colors! A great mix of soft and vibrant colors — Mio will always have something to match her outfits.
I was really happy with the way they turned out! (They’re so cute that I just might sport them in my hair myself… is that allowed? :P) The instructions were really easy to follow, and because the petals were precut, it was very quick and easy to assemble and stitch the flowers and create the hair clips. The best part? When someone asks about the pretty hair clip in your little girl’s hair, you can proudly tell them, “I made it myself!”
I really recommend this kit if you have a little girl and want a fun and easy creative project, or if you want to gift it (either premade by you, or for the recipient to make themselves). The Etsy shop also has a DIY kit for barefoot sandals with the same petals, which would be precious on a newborn, for those with younger baby girls.
Yesterday afternoon, I was getting ready to go out on an errand with Mio, so I unfolded the stroller by the front door and then went back to the bedroom to look for my phone. I came back a minute later to find Mio seated in the stroller, looking at me coolly and babbling as if to say, “Let’s go, Mom. I’m ready — what’s taking you so long?” I did a double take and thought, “Wait, did she just climb into her stroller on her own and properly seat herself?” Mio is really adept at climbing these days, but I was very surprised that she was able to smoothly and safely nestle herself in there, especially since a stroller has wheels and can move around — thank goodness she didn’t get hurt!
When Dan came home from work, I told him about what had happened, but that I hadn’t actually seen her in the act of climbing into the stroller. He wanted to see it in action so we unfolded the stroller to see if she’d do it again. Sure enough, she climbed into it like a pro with almost no hesitation. Dan took a video of it on his phone.
I’m not sure whether to feel proud or scared of what Mio is capable of. She’s a fearless one!
Our friends Hyangsun and Tony celebrated their baby girl’s 100th day last Sunday, and we got to be a part of the festivities! Baby April (SunMi) was born on April 1 this year, so she’s almost exactly a year younger than Mio. (Hyangsun and Tony had been expecting her to be born in May, and they actually came to Mio’s birthday party on March 31.. and then April was born the next day, a month before her due date!)Â The decorations were beautiful and all the food was delicious! Here are some pictures we took at the party…
Such pretty decorations!
100th Day ricecake… all the guests got to take a piece home at the end, and it was so delicious!
Brownie bites!
So much delicious food!
The lemon chicken was my favorite.

It was a really delightful celebration! Thank you Hyangsun and Tony for inviting us to celebrate April’s arrival! We can’t wait to watch her grow. 🙂
Since Mio is at an age where she’s really started to appreciate books and songs the past couple months, I’ve started taking her to the local library for their weekly Storytime. A whole bunch of babies and toddlers and their mothers gather together to hear one of the librarians read and tell stories and sing songs. They’re really interactive songs that involve lots of actions and participation, so the little kids love it!
The first week, Mio was a little overwhelmed and tried to make a run for it out of the room. The second week, there were significantly less kids there (probably because it was the week of July 4th) and Mio seemed a little more comfortable and even got bold enough to go up to the librarian and tried to take some of the felt pieces off of her storyboard easel (much to my distress). Yesterday was our third time going, and she was clapping along with the songs and getting up and trying to interact with the other kids and the librarian.
Here’s a video I took during yesterday’s Storytime.
Afterwards, we went to the nearby playground for Mio to play. It was a bit windy, but she still had a lot of fun climbing up the steps and going down the slide over and over. She’s gotten very good at climbing around the playground on her own!
