Mirei’s 6 Month Doctor’s Visit
On Wednesday, I took Mirei to the doctor for her 6 month wellness exam. She was her usual cheery self, beaming and smiling at the nurse and doctor and charming the socks off of everyone! She got her routine immunizations and just let out some whiney cries before quickly calming when getting her shots.
Mirei’s been growing so much over the first few months of her life that I thought that surely she would have tapered off a little in the pace of her growth since her four month visit two months ago, but nope! She wowed both me and the nurse with her off-the-charts growth stats!
Mirei now weighs an impressive 21 lbs 6 oz, which pushes her off the charts in weight compared to other 6 month olds. No wonder my arms feel sore!
She measured 28.5 inches tall, putting her off the charts in height-for-age as well.
Her head size is now 17.5 inches, which is in the 95th growth percentile based on head circumference-for-age.
I can’t believe that Mirei has gained a whole three pounds and grown two inches in the last couple months! I wonder when her growth is going to start tapering off… I don’t know if our arms can handle her getting much heavier so quickly! The other night, we measured the circumference of her thighs and compared it against her head circumference… and the difference was only about 1.5 inches. Hers are the definition of thunder thighs! But we love how chubby and healthy she is — makes her all the more squeezable!
Here are some photos and videos of Mirei from this past month.
Recently Mirei has discovered how to blow raspberries, and she’s been doing it a lot this week!
Getting better (and faster!) at crawling:
Mirei’s First Solids
Since Mirei turned 6 months old on Friday, we introduced her to solids for the first time on Monday evening, after coming back from our weekend camping. Here’s a video that we captured of her first taste of solids! (We gave her baby cereal made of single grain oatmeal.)
She doesn’t seem super enthusiastic about it and wasn’t able to retain the spoonfuls very well in her mouth, so it kept dribbling out, but in the end she ended up eating most of it!
Now that we’ve started Mirei on solids, we’ll have to pull out the Babycook and start puréeing vegetables and fruits for her soon. I’m curious to see what she takes a liking to!
Six Months Old.
Happy half birthday to our dear Mirei! You’re six months old today, and this past year has really flown by. You’ve grown so much since you came into our lives as a little pink bundle of joy back in January, and we’re in wonder at how much you can do now.
(I’ll be taking photos of Mirei sitting in my white desk chair and wearing her monthly onesie every month until she’s one year old.)

The Rundown at Six Months…
Stats: While we have yet to get some exact measurements until we go to the doctor for your wellness exam next week, we’re pretty sure you are well over 19 lbs… perhaps even nearing 20 lbs! You feel so heavy and we’re already feeling like we can’t hold you for too long at a time because you are so hefty. In the past week, your two front bottom teeth have emerged — your first teeth! Your hair which had a bald strip in the back is completely grown back in now.
Things You’re Doing Now: You’re on the move! In the past couple weeks, you’ve learned to wiggle and scoot your way around, pseudo-crawling your way around the room. When you spot something you want to touch, you determinedly start lunging towards it and speedily scoot your way towards your prize! We can’t leave you on high surfaces like the bed or you’ll definitely roll and scoot your way off of them. You’re constantly rolling around and moving in your sleep, traveling from one end of the crib to the other several times during the night. We find cooing happily in your crib when you wake up in the morning and from your naps, and are generally a very happy baby, full of smiles, squeals, and laughs! Because your first teeth have come in, nursing you can be painful at times, and you are eager to put anything you can into your mouth due to the teething. You’re very eager to start solids, constantly staring and reaching for the food we’re eating in front of you. We plan to officially introduce you to the world of solids next week! We couldn’t be happier with how healthy and smoothly you have been growing, and we look forward to what the coming months and years with you will bring!
Crawling!
Mirei is definitely on the move! She’s showing the beginning stages of crawling and is scooting around the room whenever we put her down! We didn’t really expect her to start crawling so soon, so we’re sort of in a panic. Baby girl is growing up so fast…
Here’s a video of her from last week, making her way around Mio’s room.
