She Cracks Me Up!
Since we’ve been cooped up indoors thanks to the rain, Mio has become pretty resourceful in entertaining herself around the house. She’s never shown too much of an interest in toys (or maybe we have the wrong ones) and is much more intrigued by random found objects. Here she is being silly with the mirror and the lid of a box….

Her personality is really starting to emerge and it’s so fun for us to watch. I love how goofy and imaginative she is, and can’t get enough of her funny antics!
First Taste of Curry

Mio had her first taste of Japanese curry tonight. (It was mild, made especially for little kids.) She gobbled it up!

Rain, Rain, Go Away…
We’ve been experiencing non-stop rainy days this week, and Mio has been dying to go outside. She’ll pick up her shoes, walk over to the window, and just stare outside with shoes in hand, making it more than obvious how much she longs to go out.

I will only go out in the rain if absolutely necessary, because it’s such a hassle to get all the raingear ready — windbreaker, umbrella, rain boots, raincover for the stroller, etc… and I just would much rather stay warm and comfortable indoors than get cold and damp outside. So while I feel bad for Mio, I have not taken her on any walks in the rain this week. (Call me heartless if you will!) But when Dan saw Mio staring out the window like that, he felt so sorry for her that he decided to take her with him for a quick run to Trader Joe’s last night.

Feeding the Chinchillas
Mio has been aware of our pet chinchillas for a few months now, and she often stares over at them and watches them eat and drink in their cage. She loves when I hold her up to their cage and let her poke her fingers in to touch their fur. Lately, I will give her a treat to feed to them and she’ll hold it out to the chinchillas to grab. (One out of five times, she’ll reach to put it into her own mouth, so I have to be hypervigilant about watching her and ensuring that doesn’t happen.) We captured it on video last night — the smile that spreads across her face every time Diesel or Piper accept a treat from her hand is priceless…!
These guys haven’t made an appearance on the blog for a while, because I’m always writing about Mio, but we still love them! I’ll always remember that our chinchillas (especially Diesel) were our first “babies” before Mio came along.
