Mio has been soaking in love from both sides of the family. Dan’s parents were there for her birth and helped out a lot during her first week… and my mother’s been in town since this past weekend and has been doting on her non-stop. 🙂 Mio is getting spoiled with all this attention from her loving grandparents! I can’t wait until she gets to meet my father, too, since he’s the last grandparent she hasn’t met yet. (He is on a business trip this week, and could not make it across the country with my mother.)
My mother’s here for another couple days until she leaves on Friday night. The week is already flying by and I wish we had more time with her here before she goes back to Virginia. I wish we weren’t so far away from my family, so that they could all come and see Mio, but I’m sure there’ll be an opportunity soon when she can meet Mommy’s family too. 🙂
After this coming weekend, I’ll be flying solo with Mio, as Dan is back at work and I won’t have any grandparents around to depend on. It’s a little daunting, but because we’ve gotten so much help this first couple of weeks, I feel like I’ve really been able to recover and adjust enough that I will be able to handle it… and for that, I am grateful.

Misono- you look FABULOUS!!! Baby Mio looks great too (clearly she takes after you). Enjoy all the love and the baby moments. She’s going to be big before you know it!! And, of course- you have to eat her piece of cake too.

Thank you Patty! I know, time is already flying by and I wish I could freeze time so that I can remember her as how tiny she is right now a little longer… she’s going to grow up and walk and talk before we know it! 🙁 Although that will be a joy to see in itself. 🙂
I definitely had her share of cake! 🙂

Thank you Kristina! 🙂 The strawberry outfit is actually a hand-me-down from my cousin Yuko. I love it too; it’s adorable! She’s growing up quick, though, so I suspect she won’t be able to wear it anymore in a couple weeks…. 🙁

haha* Thanks… my face is still quite swollen and puffy-looking, though, and my belly still sticks out a bit. People have told me “9 months in, 9 months out” in terms of getting your body back but I hope it doesn’t take that long!

I love your blog posts about Mio. Thanks so much for keeping us updated! I just love that pic of you and Mio in front of the cake. I don’t know what she’s doing with her mouth but it’s super cute! It’s like she’s dreaming of chocolate cake or remembering that she probably had something amazing just like it not long before at the recent baby showers ;). “Ahhhhhhhhhhh, yummmmm..” Maybe she’s get some chocolate hints the next time she gets breastmilk. Oh cutie pie Mio. You all look bright, vibrant and very happy. It is inspiring and enlivening.

Thank you Hyo! 🙂 I want to update as much as possible, partially because this is where I intend to keep records of how she’s growing and of all the milestones, so that we can look back on them later. 🙂
I love her expression in that photo, too! I know she’s not really smiling on purpose, but it worked out perfectly that she made that face at that moment… haha* I have a feeling she’ll be a chocolate- and cake-lover just like Mommy!

I know, I love how it looks like she’s smiling in that picture… heehee* My face is still kind of swollen and puffy, and my tummy is still quite chubby, but hopefully I’ll be back to normal soon! 🙂

awwww- the photo with both her Grandmothers is adorable. I’ve always found it amazing to see grandparents meet their grandchildren for the first time- you instantly see their parenting instincts kick in despite the fact that their own children have grown up a long time ago.
PS- You are going to be fine flying solo. Once you realize that babies are more resilient and durable than you thought, you’ll be able to relax a little bit.

I love that photo, too! It really is amazing how much both Dan’s mother and my mother have helped out. It’s been decades since they both had babies, but they definitely have more experience and wisdom than I do! Although there’s things that have changed due to knowledge gained since (i.e. having babies sleep on their backs instead of their stomachs to prevent SIDS), the basics are still the same. They did note, however, how there are so many tools now to make things easier for the mom – like infant tubs for the sink, breastfeeding pillows, fancy diaper pails that keep odors to a minimum, etc.
I hope I’ll be okay on my own! 🙂 I am already starting to realize babies are more resilient than I initially thought, but I’m still afraid I’ll break her somehow!

I hope so… My mom just left last night and then Mio ended up waking up repeatedly in the middle of the night, more than usual. I feel like things get tough as soon as we’re on our own again. But I’ll try my best! 😀

Thank you bestest! She’s started to fill out even more, and her cheeks are so chubbier than ever… haha*
My mom left late last night… I was really sad to see her go, and couldn’t help but cry when I saw her off. 🙁
But good news! We were originally planning to visit Japan for a couple weeks in the summer before my maternity leave ends so that my grandparents could meet Mio, but because of the nuclear crisis, we probably will be putting it off until next year. That is not the good news, but the nice part is that instead, I might fly over to Virginia for a week or so to spend time with the family. If you’re still in Bethesda during that time, you can meet Mio and we can catch up! 🙂 I’m thinking mid- to late-June. Hope we’ll get to see you!
