Photos from our 4th of July weekend! We started it out by trying Duck Donuts for the first time (since they recently opened their Fairfax location), had a BBQ with my parents’ family friends, and ended with fireworks on Sunday night!
The girls dressed up for 4th of July!
Hubs and Mirei at Duck Donuts
Duck Donuts were delicious! My favorite were the maple bacon ones!
When we grill, we do it right… chicken satay, kalbi, and shrimp & vegetable skewers (…in addition to the typical burgers + hot dogs)
Kids making s’mores as Dan mans the grill
Mio loves her watermelon!
Mio right in there with the big kids, roasting s’mores
Last weekend was the last one of the summer, and the weather was beautiful so we spent our Saturday at Clemyjontri Park with our friends Pat, Theo, and their little girls Anna and Cara. We each brought food and picnicked on the grass and let our kids run around on the playground and ride the carousel. We always love seeing them, and we had a great time catching up!
On the carousel at Clemyjontri Park
Cara is now one and a half! She’s grown so much!
As usual, Mio was a blur running and climbing all over the park!
Mirei fell asleep being held by Daddy. Dan is tired too from Mirei’s heavy weight!
Here are some photos from Fourth of July weekend! We spent it quietly at home, but Dan’s sister came down to visit from New York, and Ted & Elisa also came over so we had a lot of great family time together.
The girls in their red, white, and blue!
Here is Mirei on all fours, bouncing and rocking back and forth. She’s definitely getting ready to crawl!
Mio with a sparkler for the first time (with some help and supervision from Daddy, of course).
Holding a big firework with Mama
Mirei making more attempts to crawl.
She can sit up pretty well unassisted too, although we still spot her from behind…
I made sidewalk ice chalk for the first time.
It was great for showing how colors mix to make new colors, and I mixed baking soda into the ice and sprayed them with vinegar on the sidewalk to cause a reaction. Art + Science lesson in one!
Dan’s sister Hyo took some great photos of the girls too, so I’ll go ahead and share them here as well.

Hope everyone had a great Independence Day and holiday weekend! 😀
Our family had a very delicious and relaxing Thanksgiving weekend! Here are some pictures from the past few days…
Our little cutie on Thanksgiving, with the painting she made at preschool.
We brined the turkey this year! 21 lbs of moist deliciousness!
Complete with sides, many of which the hubby prepared…
Great job Dan and Mio on the pumpkin pie!
So much to be thankful for…
…especially these two. They are my world!
Mio and I, stuffed after Thanksgiving dinner.
The day after Thanksgiving brought a lot more hustle and bustle to the house. My brother Ted and Elisa had spent Thanksgiving Day in New Jersey, but came to join us for dinner on Friday, as well as Dan’s sister who visited us from New York.
The Yokoyama day-after-Thanksgiving dinner. Gotta have our sashimi fix!
Spending the weekend with Hyo. It was so nice having her visit!
Chicken masala pasty from The Pure Pasty for lunch on Sunday. Delicious!
“All aboard!” Mio playing at the red caboose train that I used to play at as a child in Old Town Vienna.
Some more photos of our little cutie…Â When I put her hair in a milkmaid braid, she pulled on my bathrobe and called herself “Queen Mio.” 😛
Labor Day weekend was a packed weekend for us. We got to see a lot of friends and did a lot of driving around! We drove to Maryland three times in five days. We got to meet up with some out-of-town friends from Ohio who were in Maryland to adopt their first baby (such an exciting time for them! Congratulations to Hiro and Kayo, and precious Hazel, who was just born on Monday), go to a drone meetup for Dan’s hobby group in Leesburg on Saturday, followed by a couple hours at Clemyjontri Park with Pat & Theo and their adorable girls, attend a birthday party for one of Mio’s friends (Happy birthday Maya!) on Sunday, and then on Labor Day we had lunch with Masanori and Komy who were visiting Virginia from New Jersey, and then enjoyed delicious BBQ in the evening at the Stein’s. Our whole family was pooped by the end of it all, but it was so nice to get to see a lot of our friends, many of which we don’t get to see too often as they live far away.
I didn’t get to take too many photos from the weekend, but here are some snapshots of Mio from this past week…
“Look Mama, fork!” Mio playing with sticks while Daddy flies his quadcopter drone at Ida Lee Park.
