We spent a Saturday afternoon at the playground at Cunningham Park with the girls in late November — it was really brisk that day! Now that Mirei is walking, she can enjoy the playground a lot more alongside Mio.
Our purple Michelin baby coming towards me:
It’s so sweet to watch them begin to play together… 🙂
On November 3, Mirei went to the doctor for her 9 month wellness checkup. Her pediatrician asked me a bunch of questions, and it looks like she is doing great in terms of her growth, health, and is ahead of the game in hitting a lot of milestones!
Dan and I had thought that based on her past measurements and how heavy she has been feeling, Mirei would for sure be over 23 pounds by now, but we were wrong! It looks like her growth in weight is slowing down a little, as the nurse weighed her at 22 lbs 9 oz! That puts her in the 96th percentile for weight-for-age.
She measured 29.5 inches tall, putting her in the 96th percentile again for height-for-age.
Her head size is now 18 inches around, which is in the 91st growth percentile based on head circumference-for-age.
We are so fortunate that Mirei has been growing so well and is so healthy. I can’t believe she’s only 3 months away from her first birthday. Time sure does fly, especially with the second child!
We interrupt your regularly scheduled programming for this announcement: Mirei has officially started walking! While she’s been doing some little mini-steps for the past week or so, she took her first “real” steps on Sunday evening to walk to Daddy, and I was able to pull my phone out in time to capture some of it!
I love her beaming smiles of accomplishment! Reminds me of when Mio took her first steps, because she was cheesing so much then, too. Hooray, Mirei!!! We are so proud of you, sweetheart!
(Excuse the awful mess in the room. You can blame it all on the little toddling one that you see there in the video, as she loves to pull out her diapers and clothes and scatter them everywhere. 😛 )
Dan’s cousin Hideaki (on his mother’s side)Â lives in Thailand, and was visiting San Francisco for a couple days, so we had dinner at Dan’s parents’ house the other night. Dan hadn’t seen his cousin since 1999, so it had been 13 years!
Mio showed off more of her walking skills… she’s getting faster and better at it every day!
Mio is looking less and less like a baby and more like a little girl these days. I’ve recently been wondering, “When does a baby become a toddler?”, and it seems like the general consensus among parents is that it’s either when the baby turns one or when they start walking, whichever comes sooner. Since she started taking her first steps a couple weeks ago, Mio has gotten better and better at walking and is now toddling everywhere — she is definitely walking more than she is crawling lately! So at 10 months old, it seems that our little Mio has already graduated to toddlerhood.
Here’s Mio this past week, at 45 weeks old.
Lately, when I turn on a children’s show (typically a Japanese sing-along) for Mio to watch, she’ll walk right up to the TV stand to get a closer look.
I wonder when she’ll realize that despite the fact that she’s right up against the television stand, she’s actually making it harder for herself to see from that angle… 😛
She love love loves exploring the bathroom! It’s the last frontier because I usually make sure to keep the door closed, but on the rare occasion that I forget, she’ll immediately make her way in to explore this as-yet relatively unknown territory.
She typically crashes around 5pm for an evening nap, after walking all over the house and causing mischief.
But then, by the time Daddy comes home, she’s up and about again and won’t go to sleep again until around 11pm or sometimes even midnight! 🙁
Mio is not even a year yet and she’s already become able to do so much! The journey of parenthood has been quite amazing, and we can’t wait to see what other adventures Mio will take us on…. 🙂
