It’s been getting pretty hot recently, so the other day, we invited Mio’s friend Junna over so the two of them could cool down and have fun in the wading pool we pulled out in our backyard.
Junna-chan and Mio are only 2 months apart!
Mio loves the water!
Splashing away!
Water flying up! Junna-chan was not a fan of Mio’s enthusiastic splashing…
Lately, Mio likes to lie down like this in the pool… and in the bathtub, too!
Junna-chan taking a break on the swing in our backyard.
Mio can play for hours out in the pool! She has her Daddy’s fair skin, though, so we’ve been making sure to liberally the sunscreen. 😉 We’ve also got Mio signed up for toddler swim class lessons at the local rec center starting next weekend, so that should be fun too!
Mio’s friend Junna turned two on February 9, and we invited over on Saturday to celebrate with her and her parents over lunch. I brought over some handmade mini heart pies for the intimate celebration!

Mini heart pies out of the oven! I made about a dozen of them.

Cutiepies!
Thank you Junna-chan and family for inviting us to be a part of your special birthday celebration! We can’t wait to see how you’ll continue to grow… 🙂
Mio playing with her friend Junna, a daughter of a family friend who lives only a few blocks away. Junna-chan is only two months older than Mio, so they’re very close in age! 🙂 We’d let them play together in the past when we were visiting Virginia from California, but they’re finally at the age where they are interacting more and actually playing together. It’s really cute to watch!
Mio woke up with a fever on Sunday morning, and was understandably very cranky and irritable. We at first wondered if she’d gotten sick, but it seems like the fever came from her teething. She keeps reaching into her mouth to touch her teeth — the four molars that are coming in at once are undoubtedly bothering her. Dan’s sister Hyo was visiting from New York this weekend, and she captured some photos of Mio. You can definitely see how miserable Mio was from the fever in the first few, but she was in a much better mood once she got some acetaminophen.
By Sunday evening, her fever was a lower, and she started smiling a little more. 🙂 We missed that smile!
Her forehead is still a little warm the past couple days and her teeth still seem to be bothering her a bit, but she is doing much better. What a relief! She did wake up today with a bit of a raspy voice, but it went away after drinking some water so I’m hoping that the moodiness and fever were indeed due to teething and not any type of sickness.
Here are some additional photos that we took from last Friday, before the onset of the fever, when Mio was in much better spirits! We’ve been taking lots of photos since getting here, but we’re finally getting caught up.
Soaking in the baby pool again.
Hello, cutiepie!

Having a blast splashing in the pool!
The swimsuit is adorable. Love the crossback, ruffles, polka dots, flowers... so girly! Thank you Pat, Theo, and Anna!
Later Friday afternoon, 15 month old Junna-chan came over to play with Mio.
Checking each other out.
Little Japanese girls.
Doing "banzai!" together. Too cute!
Thank you to everyone who sent over warm wishes for Mio to feel better — hopefully she’ll be back to her cheery, rambunctious self soon!
Mio is getting a lot of love in Virginia from not only family, but a lot of her Mommy’s friends, too! 🙂 Here are some of the wonderful people Mio has had the pleasure of meeting the past few days — she is such a lucky girl! 😀
On Friday, my best friend Debbie came to see Mio.
The bestest with Mio. They're matching in plaid! Mio is already learning from my fashionable best friend!
Debbie brought Georgetown Cupcakes! I finally got to try them, and they were amazing.
Our family friend had a baby in February, so we had a playdate with their daughter Junna-chan on Saturday.
Here is Mio with Junna-chan. Mio slept through much of the playdate...
Mio’s aunt Hyo (Dan’s sister) came down to visit from New York for the weekend, too!
Mio finally got to meet Auntie Hyo!
My brother's girlfriend Elisa also came to see Mio!
My friend Stephanie came to meet Mio on Monday evening!
Mio with Auntie Stephanie... sucking on her arm. Way to make a first impression.
Thank you for visiting, Steph!
Today, Mio and I took the Metro to visit our friends Lan and Mie and their adorable sons! I forgot my camera so I couldn’t take many photos, but here are a couple that I took on my phone.
Mie with 10-month old Kosei. Super cute!!!
Lan holding Mio. Thank you for a fun afternoon together!
Mio is so lucky to be showered with so much love while we’re back East. We still have a little over a week left in Virginia, but we’ve already had so much fun making great memories with everyone here.
