We spent last Sunday at Lewes Beach in Delaware! It was our first time at the beach this year, and Mirei’s first time ever. Mio has been talking about the beach a lot lately so we’re so glad we could take her — she had so much fun! She’s been saying, “Go back to beach!” ever since. Here are some photos of all the fun in the sun!

Going into the water… it was still a little cold, but that didn’t stop them!
Sweet Mirei in the shade of our beach umbrella.

Mirei giggles a lot lately! Can’t get enough!

We wrapped up our time in Lewes by stopping by to eat crabs for dinner at The Surfing Crab.

Mio was passed out from all the fun at the beach! She slept almost the whole ride home, too.
Delicious blue crabs!
The girls enjoyed the beach so much that we’ll definitely have to go to more this summer!
Mirei is definitely a conversationalist! Feeding her takes forever because she constantly unlatches and take breaks to “talk” to me. Mio never did this, so it’s a new experience for me but I love these little chats Mirei tries to have with me. Nursing is already a valuable and intimate bonding time with baby, but it makes those moments even sweeter!
I posted a snippet of this video on Instagram to just show how Mirei babbles, but a dear friend pointed out that it sounds like Mirei’s saying “hello” at one point! If you listen it at around the 1 minute (1:00) mark, you’ll catch what really does sound like a “hello”! Coincidence or first word…? Dan does often say “Hello Mirei!” to her so it’s very possible that she picked it up from Daddy!
She can also be a little violent… here she is hitting me! She has been doing a lot of this (along with kicking) lately.
Some more photos and video of Mirei this week…
This girl is so strong! She lunged herself forward from a reclining position in her bouncer and almost propelled herself out of it! Gotta keep an eye on her at all times.
We were at Mio’s friend Kailee’s house for a playdate and Kailee wanted to see Mirei riding her carriage. For some reason, this photo cracks me up!
Tuesday was the last day of Mio’s first year at preschool. We’re so proud of her, and also thankful for all the wonderful teachers who have helped her grow & learn, to make her first year in school so enjoyable for her! Mio has really grown a lot at school — her communication has grown by leaps and bounds with so much new vocabulary, and she plays well with other kids thanks to the socialization she gets there. While we had wondered if we were sending her to school too early at two and a half back in September (she used to cry at drop-off every time for about a month), we feel that she thrived and that it was a good experience for her. She loves school now!
Most days, we parents aren’t even really allowed to peek into the classroom through the door because the kids will get distracted, but on the last day, we were allowed to come in about 15 minutes early to watch the kids in the classroom setting, and see some of the songs and dances they’ve learned, as well as say goodbye to the teachers for the summer.
Mio’s the youngest in the class, and she loves getting the extra attention from the teachers.
Some video I took of the class singing. Mio was kind of distracted by the presence of all the parents…
“School’s out! It’s party time!”
Enjoying the lollipop she got in her gift bucket from the teachers.
Congratulations on completing your first year of school, Mio!
Afterwards, a bunch of Mio’s classmates’ moms had planned to meet at the park for a picnic lunch and let the kids run around to celebrate, so we joined and Mio had a lot of fun playing in the park.
This girl will climb anything and everything.
Mio’s preschool sends home progress reports written by teachers twice a year. Because Mio can’t quite describe in detail how her days at school are or what she did there, I love reading these and hang on every word! It’s really nice to hear firsthand from the teachers how she’s thriving in school!
Some snapshots and video of the girls from this past week…
Here’s Mirei at 15 weeks old.
Having some quiet time alone with Mama on the mornings Mio is at preschool.
Mio has a tendency lately to just fall asleep wherever she is playing. She refuses to willingly take naps, but still gets tired so often drifts off to sleep mid-activity. Here she is asleep nearby the shoe rack…

Mio came over after bathtime like this and said “Boo!” to me.
Dan playing patty-cake with Mirei the other night…
Sisters hanging out on the bed. Both look extra chubby from this angle! lol

Mio trying on a Minnie Mouse costume she received as a birthday present.
She LOVES Minnie Mouse right now, so she was so happy to match her doll!
Thank you Maya & the Beltrami family!
Nan Young brought Gianna and Abram over for a playdate on Thursday. Here are the kids looking at earthworms in the backyard before it started thunderstorming.
Dr. Gianna examining baby Mirei. “Good girl, you didn’t cry when I gave you the shot!” I loved listening to her — so funny and cute!
Mio suddenly looks so grown up in this photo! Please don’t grow up too fast…
Sunday was my first Mother’s Day as mommy to two girls! With Mirei coming into our lives this year, I felt twice as lucky to get to be a mama to our precious daughters. It actually turned out to be a really relaxing, lovely day… the girls were both happy and sweet all day, there was no crying from either of them, and it was so peaceful and just perfect — a rarity when you’re a parent of two! If only every day could be like this!
The girls and I at lunch with the rest of our family (we went to pho to celebrate both my mom and I).
First Mother’s Day as a mom of 2!
Love these girls ♥
In the afternoon, Dan really wanted to take Mio back to the pool because she’s been talking about it for a while, and my sister volunteered to watch Mirei while we took Mio. Mio really enjoyed feeling like an only child again and getting all the attention from both Mommy and Daddy! She was so over-the-moon-happy that at one point she started enthusiastically hugging and kissing both of us, saying “I love you Mommy! I love you Daddy!” (which she rarely says unless we say it first). It was such a sweet moment and really made my Mother’s Day! I know adjusting to sharing our attention with Mirei has not been easy for Mio, so I’m glad that we could finally give her some much-needed one-on-one time with us.
A happy Mio at the pool!
Watching some of the other kids.
In the whirlpool area with me.
Mio’s good mood continued on through dinnertime, when we picked up Mirei and went out to get some Burmese food. Mirei slept through the whole dinner, and these words were on repeat from Mio’s mouth. (It’s funny because she almost looks intoxicated and woozy from all the happiness she felt that day!)
It really was just the perfect day… This may have been my favorite Mother’s Day yet! 🙂
