We’ve been experiencing non-stop rainy days this week, and Mio has been dying to go outside. She’ll pick up her shoes, walk over to the window, and just stare outside with shoes in hand, making it more than obvious how much she longs to go out.
I will only go out in the rain if absolutely necessary, because it’s such a hassle to get all the raingear ready — windbreaker, umbrella, rain boots, raincover for the stroller, etc… and I just would much rather stay warm and comfortable indoors than get cold and damp outside. So while I feel bad for Mio, I have not taken her on any walks in the rain this week. (Call me heartless if you will!) But when Dan saw Mio staring out the window like that, he felt so sorry for her that he decided to take her with him for a quick run to Trader Joe’s last night.
Mio has been aware of our pet chinchillas for a few months now, and she often stares over at them and watches them eat and drink in their cage. She loves when I hold her up to their cage and let her poke her fingers in to touch their fur. Lately, I will give her a treat to feed to them and she’ll hold it out to the chinchillas to grab. (One out of five times, she’ll reach to put it into her own mouth, so I have to be hypervigilant about watching her and ensuring that doesn’t happen.) We captured it on video last night — the smile that spreads across her face every time Diesel or Piper accept a treat from her hand is priceless…!
These guys haven’t made an appearance on the blog for a while, because I’m always writing about Mio, but we still love them! I’ll always remember that our chinchillas (especially Diesel) were our first “babies” before Mio came along.
After we went to the park for the first time on Thursday, Dan wanted to go to the park with Mio too, so we went as a family on Saturday afternoon. It was colder than it had been the first time we’d gone, so we couldn’t stay out as long, but we had a great time — here are some of the pictures and video from last Saturday!
It’s rainy all this week in the Bay Area, so it looks like we won’t really be able to go outside for a while. Mio has been getting cabin fever and is itching to go outside! Hopefully the sun will come out again soon.
(Warning: This post contains partial baby nudity and baby bottoms!)
We got rid of Mio’s infant bathtub a few weeks ago, and I’ve been taking baths with her ever since, mostly because it’s just easier to hop in there with her when trying to wash her, but also partially because it’s something I probably will only be able to do for a few more years. In Japan, it’s not uncommon for family members to bathe together, and I think it’s sweet for parents to join their children in their bath while they are still really young.
For obvious reasons, I can’t take any pictures of myself with her in the bath, but Daddy decided to join Mio in the bathtub for a change the other evening, and I had to take some photos to capture these sweet moments!
