On Tuesday, the girls in the family went on an outing to Meadow Lane Park in Vienna! Mio loves this park because there are so many fun things to ride and play with. It was extra fun for her that day because her Auntie Miwa and Obaachan (grandmother) came along!
Posing with Auntie Miwa in the car, on the way to the park.
The swing is always one of Mio’s favorites.
Getting some help from Obaachan on the slide.
It’s definitely autumn here!
Mio was so excited about the rocking horse!
This was Mio’s first time on this spinning ride.
Mio was having so much fun at the park that we knew it was going to be an ordeal to wrench her away when it was eventually time for her to go home. Sure enough…
If there was ever something called the “ugly cry,” this would be it.
But then, she quickly forgot about why she was so upset and started posing for the camera.
Now you’re just being silly…
Thank you Obaachan and Auntie Miwa for coming along with us to the park! 😀
It’s been getting pretty chilly lately that I find myself dragging my feet to go outdoors, but Mio doesn’t seem to mind the cold temperatures and enjoys every chance to get out! There’s a Japanese saying, 「åä¾›ã¯é¢¨ã®åã€(kodomo wa kaze no ko) which literally translates to “Children are children of the wind.” It means that kids are openâ€air creatures, and that they are happy to be outdoors regardless of what the weather is like. Mio is definitely a living example!
Below are some pictures I snapped the other day on a brisk autumn afternoon in the backyard…
My Dad joined us for a short time! A rare photo of Mio with her ojiichan.
I love the brilliant red leaves on the Japanese maple tree in the backyard.
Mio loves picking up the leaves and saying “bappa” (her way of saying “happa” which is Japanese for leaf/leaves)
Eating senbei and pumpkin bread for an afternoon snack.
The other day, Mio was playing in my sister Miwa’s room and started carefully setting items down on a stool that was in her room. We quickly realized that all the things she was pooling together on the pedestal were her most prized objects she loves playing with the most. We couldn’t help but laugh at this little shrine she created — to anybody else, it’s a collection of random objects, but to her, they are treasures!
Carefully collecting all her favorites.
Mio’s favorite items: toothbrushes, toothpaste, powder brushes, and vitamin droppers
Interesting how they’re all kind of toiletry-related… it’s so funny what kids do!
There’s nothing Mio loves more than to sit down with a good book! I think reading is so important for kids, and because I was such a bookworm myself as a child, it fills me with so much joy and pride to see Mio taking an interest in books at such an early age. We read to her often every day, but there are also many times when she’ll just sit down and flip through the pages and “read” to herself in her own babbling language.
Here’s a cute moment I captured of Mio having some reading time with my sister. She takes such great care of Mio! 😀
Kicking back with a good book.
Mio’s favorite books are the ones with flaps that she can look behind.
Uh oh! It looks like Mio caught me spying on her reading time…
…and then she pounced, and I died from the cuteness. 😉
I can’t believe it’s already November! It’s been getting noticeably chillier in the past week, and we’ve been bringing out our winter wardrobe. Mio is now 19 months old, and as my mother says, “just keeps getting cuter and cuter.” Here are some precious moments we captured with her on the playground this weekend.

On the tunnel slide.
Happy to be on the slide!
Giving us high fives while on the swing!
…and then on the tire swing (we used my handbag as a counterweight… lol).
All bundled up!
There’s less than two months left in the year, and I can’t wait for all the fun and warmth that the holiday season brings! 😀
