Our dear friends Pat & Theo are expecting their second baby in March, and Theo and his sister Aivi planned a surprise baby shower (or “baby sprinkle” as these low-key parties to celebrate the arrival of Baby No. 2, 3, etc. are called) for Pat! Our favorite mama didn’t suspect a thing, and was very surprised to see her family and friends gathered together to celebrate the much-anticipated arrival of their baby girl!
Waiting in anticipation for Pat’s arrival!
“Surprise!”
Pat was so surprised! She didn’t suspect anything.
The delicious spread! Pat and Theo’s moms prepared so much amazing food.
Beautiful mother and daughter!

Trying to take a picture of the babies together. But they don’t look too happy…
Congratulations, Pat! Can’t wait to meet baby Cara!
It was a lovely baby shower, and we had such a fun time catching up with Pat and Theo and celebrating this happy occasion with them. Best wishes to the soon-to-be family of four! 🙂
My soon-to-be sister-in-law Elisa’s birthday is on Valentine’s Day, and we had a birthday dinner at our house for her on Friday! My mom prepared a delicious sashimi dinner while I was tasked with making the cake! Elisa is one of the girliest girls I know and loves pink, so I wanted to make a very princess-y cake that would befit the birthday girl!
I have wanted to try a ruffle frosting technique that I’d seen on Pinterest a while back, and I thought that this was the perfect opportunity! I stacked ombre layers of the cake on the inside, and frosted light pink ruffles all around the cake. I was pretty happy with the result!

Happy birthday Elisa! ⤠The birthday girl loved it – Mission accomplished!
The ombre pink layers turned out pretty well, too!
Mio’s friend Junna turned two on February 9, and we invited over on Saturday to celebrate with her and her parents over lunch. I brought over some handmade mini heart pies for the intimate celebration!

Mini heart pies out of the oven! I made about a dozen of them.
Junna-chan showing us that she is two with her fingers. So cute!
Junna’s dad made cream puffs in lieu of a birthday cake.

Cutiepies!
Thank you Junna-chan and family for inviting us to be a part of your special birthday celebration! We can’t wait to see how you’ll continue to grow… 🙂
Some snapshots from Superbowl Sunday! We went to watch the game with some friends over in Maryland. Dan and I were the only ones cheering for the 49ers in Raven country, but they put on a great game.
Football whoopie pies I made for the Superbowl party. 🙂
Watching the Superbowl on the projector. It was quite an impressive set-up!
Last Sunday as a busy day for us! For lunch, we drove over to Bowie, Maryland to visit our friends Will & Clair and their adorable one year old son Joseph! We had a great time at their lovely home, making homemade pizza for lunch and letting our little ones get to know each other…
Cutiepies! Mio meeting almost-1-year-old Joseph.

Later that evening, we went to Gymboree Play & Music in Burke to celebrate our friends’ son Danny turning two! Mio and Danny had met a few months ago when we went to Frying Pan Farm Park. This was our first time going to a party at Gymboree, but it was a lot of fun and we can see why it’s so popular!
Mio at Gymboree play gym, looking intense. Playtime is serious business.

Sticking her head out: “Coast is clear!”
Everyone was supposed to hop on the “train,” but Mio ran away from the group activity.

Mio is doing her own thing (again) while everyone’s collecting balls.
What finally piqued her interest were the bubbles!
Mio’s favorite was music time: she loved hearing the instructor sing, and enthusiastically shook her maracas along with the song.

Mio also loved the parachute! The kids had fun running around under it.
After an hour of fun-filled playtime, it was time to eat!
Beautiful cupcakes for Danny!
Happy birthday Danny! The beautiful family. 🙂

Mio had a lot of fun! She was especially fond of her party hat that she got at the party, and still likes to wear it even a week later… 🙂
