I’ve always been huge on embracing the feminine details in fashion. I love almost anything with ruffles, lace or beaded appliques, scalloped hemlines… if it’s girly and sweet, I’ll likely be enamored with it. Which is why a store like Anthropologie will be the death of me. With its unique, eclectic “vintage” style, it keeps me coming back for more, even in an economic recession. One step in the store and I’m doomed. Done for. I look around and I fall in love with everything I see.
Today, I was browsing Anthropologie’s site and came across this gorgeous top by Corey Lynn Calter and gasped. It literally took away my breath for a moment. I love the nude-ivory hue of the hammered silk, the soft chiffon roses, the bead and chain details… it’s as if they took every detail I love and rolled it into one piece of clothing. I feel like we’re meant to be. Where have you been all of my life?
But alas, I don’t think I can justify shelling out $150 for a tank, no matter how beautiful, how delicious, how perfect it may seem. For a coat, yes. For a dress, maybe. But for a top, it just seems a little too indulgent. And yet I know that I’ll continue pining for it for the rest of the season, letting it sit in my wish list, living with the fear that it’ll get sold out and clinging onto the hopes that someday I’ll discover it on a sale rack and be able to finally bring it home. Is it worth this torment that I’ll subject myself to? I don’t know….
And so continues my love-hate relationship with Anthropologie. Why does she have to be such a tease?

I think it is classic enough that you could wear it for many years. You always had a great eye for feminine touches, many of which I don’t think I can carry well in favor of more simple business attire. But this is lovely and I think the many ways you could use it for many seasons to come would justify the cost (Sorry Dan).

alice: haha* I’ve heard the word “grandma” used in association with Anthropologie a couple times too. Pay no heed! Their clothes are still so pretty 🙂
meg: Isn’t it? Thank you so much for your input! I definitely think it is something that can be worn for several years to come. Hmm, I did just get paid…. 😉

i love that top!!! you know more than anyone that i heart anthropologie! sigh… why must their clothes be so pricey… an anthropologie is actually opening up in my neighborhood so i’m super excited and also super scared that this might be the end to my meager bank account.
corey lynn makes awesome clothes… i think i read somewhere that she used to be a costume designer for some opera company before starting her own fashion label. i’m a huge fan of hers, even though i’ve never actually owned anything she’s made because they’re all way beyond my budget!
oh and guess what? i was at target the other day and saw the same cake holder that you tried to buy me for my birthday! they were sold out, except for one box that had already been opened but they’re supposed to get another shipment so i’m going to buy it the next time i’m at target so that i don’t have to risk reordering it on amazon and having it shatter again during transit!! i’m way excited… i wish i didn’t live by myself so that i could bake cakes more often and have people to eat them haha

Hi Bestest!
I know, I remember I didn’t know about Anthropologie until I tagged along with you to one of your shopping excursions years ago. Now that I’m working and am a little less broke, it’s one of my favorite stores to visit even though I still can’t afford most things. They’re at least great for inspiration. You are always so ahead of everyone on finding the cutest fashions!
Seeing this top was actually the first I heard of Corey Lynn. But I’m already in love with her style! It’s too bad that everything is so pricey though. ::sigh::
Yes, they have the same cake stand at Target! I got it there for another friend whose birthday party I went to recently, and she loved it. I hope that they restock it soon so you can get it. I’m so sorry about how it shattered in transit last time. But I’m glad that you may be able to own it after all soon 🙂 I’m sure Jerry will love all the cakes and cupcakes you bake! I want to try some next time I see you!
Love you and miss you. xoxo

Very nice post. It’s nice to have choices or even just to look and dream*.

I actually went to go see the top at a store this weekend, and it’s not quite what I expected. I tried it on and it was a little disappointing… didn’t seem true to the photo. I would still love to add it to my wardrobe collection if it were much cheaper, but I’ve decided it’s definitely not worth $150. 🙁
